Parent Movie Series!

Attention all parents!
Next semester, we are starting a brand new series every two weeks during test prep, just for you.
We'll be screening movies (most likely some nice documentaries), enjoying delectable refreshments, and relaxing while your kids learn.
If you are interested, please email me at pa2.asart@gmail.com, or let me know at work if you see me bobbing around.
Thanks!

Field Trip to Columbia

Recently, the photography students went to Columbia University to tour their visual arts facilities, and specifically their dark room.
Each student got to partake in each step of developing a black & white photo in a dark room. Everybody was delighted to take home their very own picture (not from our negatives, of course).
We plan to go back to the Visual Arts department at Columbia, but not until next semester when our program has a stronger foundation within our school.

Thank you for our continuing support, whether you are an individual, parent, teacher, or friend of the program. We are in the process of expanding our program and solidifying our role in developing the genius of these brilliant children.

The film class is well on time to have our final movie of the semester done by the end of the semester. Go ahead and ask your child what we are doing!

Photo parents, we are starting a new project that will require work outside of school with parents/adults/maybe photography staff. We will have a sign-up sheet for before/after the holiday vacation. Enjoy!

No Place performance at Harlem Studio Museum

This Saturday, November 14, will be a performance at the Harlem Studio Museum that people should try to attend. I don't know much about the choreographer, musicians, or dancers, but the performance is bound to be an excursion into challenging what we think about our reality. Sounds interesting?
You can visit the Harlem Studio Museum homepage to learn more about the performance. Showtimes are at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
$7 for general public, $5 for students, seniors, and museum members.

Hope you all had a good weekend!

First Film Screening

Monday November 2nd, and Tuesday November 3rd, we will be screening our first film at 4:30 both days in the auditorium (hopefully) starring our film students who have been meeting Mondays and Wednesdays. We are really excited to show our first film, and even more excited to begin the production of our next film.

For photography, we are finishing our first project next week on Thursday. We will be working on finding a good display spot where parents, students, and staff can view the work that we have been sweating over.

The key to making this successful is giving us as much support as possible. Come and bring friends!!!!

Lens @ NY Times

Yes, it's a little obnoxious to count on the NY Times for the photojournalism too, but if the design on their website isn't the shabbiest, nor is it the most insidious group of photographs I've ever seen. But it is a step in the right direction to understand what careers can be made out of exploration the art of photography. I'll ad a feed on the webpage so we can always know what's happening with them.

Harlem Studio Museum - Target Free Sundays

Every Sunday at the Studio Museum of Harlem, there is Target Free Sundays. Most of the time, it is a hands-on opportunity for children to learn a certain methodology of creating art of valuable instructors.
If you have never been there, please go.
On Sunday October 18, 2009, there will be hands on canvas design FOR FREE from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

I do not know policy on how many children can come, whether refreshments are served, whether there will be lotto tickets for the latest Kandinsky, etc. Your best bet is to go and find out yourself.
